How will I know if my dental pain will go away on it own or if I should call the dentist?

person holding white Android smartphone in white shirt            It is possible that some dental discomfort may go away with time if it is from a mild trauma such as accidentally biting a hard food item or your cheek, but if it persists longer than a week or two, treatment may be needed.  If you are experiencing a sharp and/or lingering pain, then it is best to seek an immediate appointment to rule out an infection or abscess.
